Educational Statistics Show Why Kid Angel Is Needed:
There are approximately 20 million children in the US that are
not even able to read on a 4th grade level.
In the San Diego School System:
- Test scores: READING - 80% of 4th graders and 8th graders
scored below the national average for reading proficiency
(competency over difficult material). This score is well below
the national average.
- Test scores: MATH - 78% of 4th graders and 82% of 8th graders
fell below the national average for math proficiency. This
score is also well below the
national average.
- Research shows that 152 out of every 1000 San Diego students
never graduate. Students may become frustrated and give up
on teachers, the educational system, parents, and unfortunately,
themselves. Sometimes they succumb to alcoholism, drug abuse
and teenage pregnancy.
- In English language skills, in all but two grades, fewer
than four in 10 San Diego County students reached the level
where the state considers them to be fully prepared to move
on to the next grade.
- More than half of the San Diego County high school students
who took the CA State high school graduation test this spring
failed its Math and English sections, meaning they will have
retake the test or they won't receive a high school diploma.
